Breaking news! Fuel Subsidy removed

Breaking! Fuel subsidy removed; new price of fuel revealed
The federal government of Nigeria has removed subsidy on fuel and it will now start to sell for  N145 per litre.
This removal was made on Wednesday, May 11.
Until the removal, the official price of petrol was N87 per litre although consumers have been paying as much as N200 for fuel due to scarcity.
Ibe Kachikwu and President Muhammadu Buhari
The removal in fuel subsidy has been a lingering issue since President Muhammadu Buhari took over power.
The minister of state for petroleum product, Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu had said that the citizens were not benefitting from the subsidy which made it necessary to be removed.
An official in the petroleum industry had earlier said the federal government would deregulate the downstream sector of the Nigerian petroleum industry so as to put an end to scarcity.
The petroleum minister in a statement said the decision was taken based on the current challenges and that Nigerians have been paying exorbitant prices for fuel.

"What I'm concerned about is the degree to which reporting and information starts emphasizing the spectacle and the circus," Obama said, simultaneously

How Did Drake do it? He joins Forbes List Of Top Five Richest Hip-hop Stars.

Drake Joins Forbes List Of Top Five Richest Hip-Hop Stars

Rapper Aubrey “Drake” Graham became the newest member of The Forbes five club of hip-hop’s wealthiest artist on Monday with a net worth of 60 million dollars, said Forbes.

The annual list had regularly included rap artistes Bryan “Birdman” Williams, Andre “Dr. Dre” Young, Shawn “Jay Z” Carter, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Due to the mismanagement of funds which resulted in a bankruptcy last summer, 50 Cent was superseded by Drake, who had increased his net worth through touring, music releases and business deals with Nike, Sprite and Apple.

Drake’s forth studio album ‘’views’’, a Toronto native who goes by his middle name, sold an estimated 630,000 copies on its April 29 release date, according to Vibe Magazine.
With each album selling at 13.99 dollars exclusively on iTunes, the 29-year-old made about 800,000 dollars that night on release.

Business mogul and rap artist Diddy continued to hold the number one title with a net worth of 750 million dollars.

Thanks to his agreement with Diageo’s Circo vodka, stakes in his music television network Revolt, his clothing line Sean John and more.

Dr Dre followed with 710 million dollars, then Jay Z in third place with 610 million dollars and finally Birdman, who came fourth with 110 million dollars.

While his net worth was small in comparison to his fellow club members, Drake was quickly climbing the ranks, earning some 150 million dollars to date before taxes and spending, Forbes said.

The business magazine analyzes artistes’ past earnings, values their current holdings and talks to industry specialists to determine which hip-hop star makes it on the list.

Combined together, Forbes disclosed that, all five artists are worth 2.2 billion dollars. (Reuters\NAN)

Clinton Exploring How To Win Over Republicans

As Trump Wins, Clinton Exploring How to Win Over Republicans

With Donald Trump all but clinching the Republican nomination for president, Hillary Clinton is beginning to explore ways to woo Republicans turned off by the brash billionaire.
The Democratic front-runner's campaign believes Trump's historically high unfavorable ratings and penchant for controversy may be enough to persuade a slice of GOP voters to get behind her bid, in much the same way so-called Reagan Democrats sided with the Republican president in the 1980s.
Democrats caution their effort to win over Clinton Republicans — or Hilla-cans, perhaps — is in its earliest stages, but could grow to include ads and other outreach targeted in particular at suburban women in battleground states. Already

A kid who hacked Instagram

A 10-year-old Finnish kid won $10,000 for hacking Instagram
And he's not even old enough for an account.

A precocious youth has won a $10,000 bug bounty from Facebook after he figured out a way to delete other users' comments from Instagram's servers,Mashable reports.
The youngster, a 10-year-old Finnish kid named Jani, claimed the security flaw he discovered could even allow him to delete Justin Bieber's Instagram comments and captions, should he feel so inclined. Jani showed off his hack to the Instagram team by deleting a comment they posted on a test account. As the boy's father told the Finnish news site Iltalehti, Jani and his twin brother are fairly prolific at poking holes in seemingly secure websites, but the Instagram hack was their biggest to date.
The $10,000 prize was part of Facebook's Bug Bounty program, which offers rewards to White Hat hackers and other researchers who find bugs or security flaws in their code. In 2015, Facebook reportedly paid out $936,000 to 210 different researchers, out of a grand total of 13,000 submissions. 102 of those submissions were considered "high impact."

RITA ORA DISPELS BECKY RUMORS, POSES WITH BEYONCÉ

There seems to be no bad blood between Beyoncé and Rita Ora.
After denying that she is “Becky”—the now infamous woman Queen Bey references on “Sorry”—Rita hung out and danced with ‘YoncĂ© at the Met Gala on Monday (May 2).
Rita shared her love for the LEMONADE chart-topperwith a side-by-side Snapchat too. The flick’s caption? “Family” and a heart emoji.

Just in case that didn’t clarify things, Ora also rocked a “Not Becky” name tag to a Met Gala after-party.
After LEMONADE dropped, the “Body on Me” singer was criticized for posting a photo of a lemon-adorned bra on Snapchat. She was also bashed by some BeyHive members for wearing the same Gucci dress Bey donned in her “Formation” video.
Ora signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation in 2008, but sued for her release last year, claiming she felt “orphaned” by the label. Despite that, she denied any animosity against Bey in a tweet denying an affair with Hov.
Ora wasn’t the only person accused of being “Becky” by fans. Others included fashion designer Rachel Royand, due to some confusion, celebrity chef Rachael Ray.

“A lot of that shit funny, man,” said Birdman. “Y’all don’t understand how dead serious I was in that building, man. Y’all done made this shit…and it’s cool. I’m with it. It gave a ni**a a laugh and I don’t like to laugh. I only like to smile. But it’s cool. A lot of that shit is real funny they got on the Internet, but it’s cool.”
During the interview, Birdman also addressed rumors about his sexuality, talks of a feud with Rick Ross and Trick Daddy, and his ongoing dispute with Lil Wayne. See highlights from the 35-minute conversation below.
ON RICK ROSS: “Me and Ross was like brothers everyday, hanging together. They one of the reasons we came to Miami, because them ni**as embraced us so strong when we came out here. I don’t know what his call was

US Democrats -lambast Trump’s 'poisonous' rhetoric

US Democratic lawmakers visiting Mexico City on Monday assailed Donald Trump’s controversial remarks about immigrants, with one member of Congress decrying his “poisonous rhetoric.” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi led a congressional delegation from border states during a visit that included talks with President Enrique Pena Nieto about trade, security and immigration. Mexico’s government has criticized Trump for calling Mexican immigrants rapists and said it would not pay for a wall along the border as demanded by the Republican frontrunner if he is elected president. “I know that many people are very concerned about the remarks against immigrants, but I can assure you that we fight every day against this poisonous rhetoric,” US Representative Linda Sanchez of California said in Spanish at a news conference. Ruben Gallego, a lawmaker from Arizona, said “Donald Trump’s rhetoric is not a reflection of the United States’ opinion of our neighbors and friends, the Mexicans.” Henry Cuellar said people from his home state of Texas do not want walls, as they “know that the Rio Grande doesn’t divide us, it unifies us as two nations.” Vice President Joe Biden said during his own visit to Mexico City in February that he felt “almost obliged to apologize” for the comments made about Mexicans during the Republican primary race.

World Bank To Make Disclosure On Abacha Loot Spending

The World Bank has agreed to consider a request made by civil society organisation, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), seeking additional information on how money recovered from late dictator, General Sani Abacha was spent by the Nigerian government.

This information is contained in a statement issued in Lagos  yesterday by SERAP and signed by the organisation’s executive director, Adetokunbo Mumuni.

According to SERAP, the World Bank decision was as a result of an appeal the organisation lodged with the bank on February 5, 2016 on the ground that the bank’s decision on its initial request did not reveal “important portions of the information requested on how Abacha loot was spent”.

Based on the development the the international financial institution has referred the portion of the appeal filed by SERAP, to which adequate information has not been provided, to the Bank Archives Unit for processing for public access.

The organisation states that “the Bank Access to Information Committee (AIC) in its Decision on appeal issued in Case number AI3982-A dated 29 April 2016, and sent to SERAP held that although the appeal by the organisation was not filed within 60 days of the Bank’s decision as required by its Access to Information Policy, SERAP appeal nonetheless “contains a request for additional information, not previously submitted by the requester, and which the Bank has neither considered nor denied.  Accordingly, the AIC refers back to the Archives Unit this portion of the appeal for processing for public access.” “The portion of the appeal which the Bank has now referred to its Archives Unit for public access include information on: evidence.

and list of the 23 projects allegedly completed with recovered Abacha loot, and whether the 23 projects where actually completed; and what became of the 2 abandoned projects; evidence and location of the 8 health centers built with recovered Abacha loot reviewed by the World Bank; and evidence and location of the 18 power projects confirmed by the World Bank

Crisis Looms In Polytechnics As Lecturers Threaten strike

The nation’s polytechnic sector may be heading for another round of strike as lecturers across the country have threatened to embark on a strike action if the Federal Government does not urgently address the various industrial issues bedevilling the sector.

The lecturers under the aegis of Association of Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), stated that all attempts made by the union to meet government officials to explain the urgency of their demands have failed.

President of ASUP, Comrade Usman Yusuf Dutse, who addressed newsmen on in Abuja ahead of the 2016 World Workers’ Day, declared that the situation leaves the union with no choice but to embark on an industrial action.

He said the union was disturbed that since the suspension of the protracted strike in 2014, none of the core issues of demand has been addressed by the Federal Government.

According to him, the lecturers have been reluctant to take appropriate actions to address the situation because it believes in dialogue and have always practiced responsible unionism

He said: “However, we are now being pushed to resort to extreme measures in resolving industrial dispute and we shall act accordingly. We have decided to place this position before government and the Nigerian public for the benefit of the sector and to challenge government to act now in order to avert another industrial disharmony in our polytechnics.

We are aware that the issues between government and ASUP have lingered for years. We are also cognisant of the fact that this government came to power about one year ago but then government is a continuum.

Perceiving betrayal in the US Politics

A powerful sense of betrayal is driving the 2016 campaign. The Donald Trump campaign has always been angry. We are now beginning to see the same anger in the Bernie Sanders campaign. No candidate left in the race is echoing Barack Obama’s 2008 message of hope and optimism. Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and former side, the sense of betrayal started long before the Trump campaign. It emerged with the Tea Party movement in 2010, which claimed that Republicans in Washington were failing to do what Republicans elected them to do — namely, stop Obama, particularly his Obamacare policies. The Tea Party accused GOP party leaders like former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and former House Speaker

History being Made

Leicester Wins English Title for 1st Time in 132-Yr History
Leicester City secured its first Premier League title without playing on Monday after second-place Tottenham drew 2-2 at Chelsea in one of the biggest-ever triumphs by an underdog in sports.
Jubilant Leicester players watched the game at top-scorer Jamie Vardy's house and were filmed singing "Championes! Championes! Ole! Ole! Ole!" while jumping up and down with their arms on each other's shoulders.
Just two years ago, Vardy and many of his teammates were playing in the second tier and then came close to being relegated again last year. They started this season as 5,000-1 outsiders for the title but for the first time in its 132-year history Leicester is champion of England.
Leicester, which is based in a central England city with a population of 330,000, now has an insurmountable seven-point lead over

Premier League Winner

Leicester City have won the Premier League title in one of the greatest sporting stories of all time.
Tottenham’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea on Monday confirmed a stunning achievement for Claudio Ranieri’s side.
Leicester started the campaign as 5,000-1 outsiders for the title after almost being relegated last season.
But they have lost just three league games in what has been described as a “fairytale” and the “most unlikely triumph in the history of team sport”.
Closest challengers Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and last year’s champions Chelsea, have all failed to match the Foxes’ consistency across the season.
“In terms of domestic football, Leicester City winning the Premier League is the greatest achievement ever and I think it will never be surpassed,” former Leicester midfielder Robbie Savage told BBC Sport.
“It is incredible. This is a turning poin

Electricity boost in Nigeria

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo said on Monday that the Federal Government was planning to generate 7, 000 megawatts of electricity for the nation within the next 18months.
The vice president stated this at the presentation of a book “Nigeria: The Challenges of Growth and Development, an In-Depth Analysis by Experts,” held at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
Osinbajo stated that power remains a major challenge the Federal Government had been facing, and which the government was determined to solve.
He said that the most important part of the budget would focus on ensuring that the weak aspect of the power value chain was restored.
Osinbajo said that the nation was faced with the proble

FG To Pay Subsidy On PMS

FG To Pay Subsidy On PMS

The Federal Government said it would pay subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit from the recoveries made in the first quarter of 2016.
This is contained in the latest Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) template released in Abuja.
It said that between January and March, the Federal Government was able to save about N10 billion as a result of selling the product above the Expected Open Market Price.
According to the new template, the expected open market price of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) has risen to N99.38 per litre for independent and major oil marketers and N98.62 per litre for NNPC retail outlets.
It added that the expected open market price was the actual price of the product without subsidy and it was based on the current exchange rate of N197 to a dollar.
It said that at the current price of N86 per litre at NNPC retail outlets, the Federal Government was paying N12.62 per litre as subsidy on the product and N12.88 per litre as subsidy for other oil marketers’ price of N86.50.
A breakdown of the template revealed that for NNPC retail outlets and independent and major oil marketers, the Landing Cost of PMS imported into the country was N84.32 and N85.08 per litre respectively,
It stated that the distribution margin, which include retailers, transportation, bridging fund and dealers margin among others stood at N14.30 for both the NNPC and other marketers.
According to the statement, this brings the current Expected Open Market Price to N98.62 and N99.38 for NNPC retail outlets and other marketers respectively.

Have you ever asked what is contained in the Nigerian annual budget

By Amir Bagwanje.
Year in, year out, the Federal government of Nigeria and indeed the state governments prepare budgets in line with their fiscal responsibilities and philosophies. There was never a time at least, in recent memories where Nigerians showed even the remotest concern of what their annual budget document contains. This show of indifference to budget in particular and other government policies is borne out of the obvious Nigerian factor- lack of commitment to follow through promises Nigerian politicians make to the electorate during electioneering campaign. Who would have wasted his/her precious time analysing or debating a piece of document that he/she knows fully well that is not going to be implemented.

What will Trump be like?

The question of the moment: What will Trump be like as GOP nominee?
Indianans vote in their primaries on Tuesday. Stay caught up on the race.
The limits of Ted Cruz's strategy
In 2012, Mitt Romney effectively ended Rick Santorum’s presidential campaign with a seven-point victory in Wisconsin. Just 44 percent of Wisconsin Republican voters picked him, yet in exit polls, 67 percent of them said they’d be “satisfied” if he won the nomination.
Cruz’s Wisconsin victory was nearly twice as large as Romney’s in 2012, with a 13-point margin, and a near-majority of 48.2 percent support. Yet in exit polls, asked how they’d feel if Cruz won the presidency, just 60 percent were optimistic. Put another way, for every two votes Romney got, another voter was open to backing him. For Cruz, the ratio was four-to-one.

A Sabotage, Why would they do that?

The former Niger Delta militant leader, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, at the weekend, broke his silence over the recent attacks on oil and gas pipelines in the region, urging the President Mohammad Buhari to investigate the oil servicing companies.
Tompolo, in an open letter personally signed and titled “Am not part of the Niger Delta Avengers Group‎”, alleged that the oil pipeline repair servicing companies sabotage the pipelines in order to secure surveillance and repair contracts from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) due to deficiency in handling the jobs.
Tompolo’s statement,

He said it, What do you think?

Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, yesterday, assured Nigerians that the recent attack on Nimbo Community in Uzo-Uwani local government, Enugu State, by suspected herdsmen would bring an end to the menace of herdsmen.
Ekweremadu, who led other members of the National Assembly from Enugu State to the area, described the damage done to the community as devastating.
He assured them that the incidents would bring an end to

Hmm! So Gender Politics really has a role to play??

Gender Politics Playing a Big Role for Trump, Clinton
She has no stamina. She shouts. She's got nothing going for her but being a woman.
Donald Trump, after toying with gender politics off and on during the campaign, is all in on a mission to undercut Hillary Clinton's credentials by syncing up his say-anything campaign strategy with his alpha-male persona.
The same Republican presidential candidate who mocked "little" Marco Rubio, dismissed "low-energy" Jeb Bush and promises to "cherish" and "protect" women as president is dismissing the former senator, secretary of state and first lady as little more than a token female who's playing the

What does Trump have for us?

Trump Has a 'Plan B' for Convention _ Outside Help

Donald Trump has a Plan B if he's faced with a contested convention, and it involves the sort of outside groups that he's called "corrupt."
While the billionaire businessman might lock up the Republican presidential nomination in the next five weeks of voting, he and his allies are simultaneously undertaking a parallel effort in case he falls short.
Outside groups, including one led by longtime Trump political ally Roger Stone, and a loose collection of colorful supporters such as "Bikers for Trump" are organizing ahead of the July convention in Cleveland.
They're soliciting money to pay for their transportation and housing, and they're already trying to influence the mood of the convention with a social media campaign saying that anything short of a Trump nomination would be "stealing."
"Our principal focus right now is Cleveland," Stone said of his group, called Stop the Steal. "We want to bring as large a contingent as possible to demonstrate the breadth of Trump's appeal so that the party can see graphically what they're going to lose if they hijack the nomination from him."
Stop the Steal and other groups are gaining steam even though Trump has insisted he wants no donor help for his bid and is beholden to no one.

He confirms his retirement "Puff daddy"

Diddy’s motto has always been clear: “Can’t stop. Won’t stop.” But that seems to be changing, as the Bad Boy boss has confirmed his upcoming retirement from hip-hop.
During an interview with Cigar Aficionado, Puff Daddy explained why his next album, No Way Out 2, will be his finale in the rap game.
“I’m going to put out my last album and devote 100 percent of my time to doing films,” he told the magazine, according to PEOPLE. “I want to stop at a great place…A final album is a great place to stop. I want to take a victory lap, to do a world tour and really enjoy it once last time.”
Puff promises that NWO2 will be “honest” and an important part of his 20-year legacy.
“When I’m gone, only the songs will survive,” he added. “I know I’m making music that will live on. I don’t go into the studio just t

Democracy In Nigeria

By David Dimas
The dishonorable happenings in the 8th National Assembly have resolutely convinced politically-engaged Nigerians that a critical mass of politicians in the upper and lower chambers of our law making ivory tower are not there for representative democracy, but to earn the largest legislative allowances and wages in the history of democracy on earth.
From the melodrama produced by the Machiavellian process of picking principal officers in the lawmaking assemblage to the current Saraki saga, the drama seems to keep evolving unabatedly from the floors of the both house. Nigerians are finding it hard to move on with zest as expected by standard demands of citizenship because those they have elected to represent them at the National Assembly now advance their personal interest without recourse to their constituents.
Let’s face it, insensitive politicians, irrespective of party affiliations, love to spend funds on themselves irrespective of any opinion from

Say no to Nuclear Energy in Nigeria

Nigeria: Say No To Nuclear Energy In Nigeria

Image result for nuclear Energy
I read an article on April 26, 2016, in a Nigerian newspaper "Nuclear power not safe for Nigeria by Sen. Shehu Sani." I hope his voice will not be a lone voice on this issue while the citizens he is trying to protect look on. Although I don't live in Nigeria, it is my native land and I love my native land, the people are my people and thus their predicament my concern.
Despite the efficiency of the Japanese government and its people, their advancement in technology and history of excellent disaster management preparedness the nuclear disaster in Japan is proving to be one of the worst nuclear disasters, since Chernobyl.
History is the study of the present and the past to project into the future.
Nigeria's history of disaster management or maintenance culture in the past and the present has much to be desired of, so how can it want to project into a future of nuclear energy with all the attendant risk.
It does not take an expert in Nuclear energy to be able to state basic obvious facts that are glaring. Any major mishap involving radiation leaks from nu

Let's talk about Trends

I like to look at Google Trends from time to time to see what it can tell me about things. I realize that search keyword activity is only one data point in a complex system and that with the move to mobile, it is less important than it was in the web only era. And people search for things when they want them. Once they have them, the search volume goes down. But I still think Google Trends can reveal some interesting things.
Here are some queries I ran today:
Facebook and Google are battling it out for video supremacy, but this query really doesn’t tell us very much about where that battle is going and how it will end. It is interesting to note that YouTube has been a mature but stable business for a long time now.
Twitter and the smartphone seem to have risen with a similar curve and are now in decline, with Twitter falling a bit faster than smartphones.
We see a similar shaped curve with Facebook, but the order of magnitude is quite different which is why I did not combine it with
