UniLag update

ERC condemns dissolution of Unilag SUG
By Amaka Abayomi THE Education Rights Campaign, ERC, has condemned the decision of the Senate of the University of Lagos to dissolve the executive and legislative arms of the University of Lagos Students’ Union, ULSU, for leading students’ protests against poor welfare conditions and high cost of goods and services on campus. Describing the decision as draconian and despotic, National Coordinator, ERC, Mr. Hassan Soweto, said the decision is an assault on the freedom of association and other democratic rights. His words: “That the University of Lagos is dissolving ULSU less than two years after it was restored following over one decade of proscription is a sign that intolerance has continued to rule the hearts and minds of members of the varsity management. “The ERC hereby demands the immediate restoration of Students Union activities and a halt to every other attack on the democratic rights of students. This Could Lead To War

By Ochereome Nnanna ON Wednesday last week, I was at the Enugu State High Court to attend a session. Shortly before 10am, a large number of prisoners, accompanied by their wardens, arrived. President Buhari The prisoners’ warden who came to our own courtroom with his wards stood with us in the corridor as the court was packed with lawyers, plaintiffs, respondents, court staff and other interested persons. After a while, a discussion naturally came up about the menace of Fulani cattle herders all over the country. The prison warden who obviously hailed from Enugu State opened up and said the situation in the state was “horrible”. “I went to my hometown last weekend. I was just resting in my room in the afternoon when, all of a sudden I started hearing “hm-hm-hm”. I looked out of my window into my garden

Trump vows 'America first' foreign policy

Trump vows ‘America first’ foreign policy

Republican White House frontrunner Donald Trump promised a top-to-bottom overhaul of US foreign policy Wednesday to put “America first” and make its allies pay up. In a major foreign policy speech short on specifics that left Washington experts scratching their heads, Trump warned that Europe and Asia may have to defend themselves. He vowed to tear up trade deals, retool NATO to oppose migration and “radical Islam” and put US national interests ahead of all other considerations. “‘America First’ will be the major and overriding theme of my administration,” Trump told supporters, co-opting the slogan of America’s pre-World War II isolationists. The speech had been billed as a chance for Trump,

Drake Reveals views tracklisting

Ahead of Friday’s release of his new album Views, Drake has gifted fans with the tracklisting.
The 20 tracks do not include any features, but that doesn’t mean no guests will appear on the project. After all, Kanye West and Jay Z show up on “Pop Style” and Wizkid and Kyla are featured on “One Dance,” but none of those names show up here.
The album also features songs that have previously surfaced online. That includes the Pimp C collaboration “Faithful,” for instance, and the Popcaan-assisted “Controlla.” Another familiar cut, “Hotline Bling,” also appears on the album, though it only shows up as the bonus closer.
On the eve of its release, Drake will premiere the album during a special episode of OVOSOUND Radio at 10 p.m. ET on Beats 1.
See the full tracklisting below.

The House presided over by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, noted that the bond would amount to spoon feeding operators in the power sector where tariffs had been increased twice since 2013 without noticeable improvements in electricity generation. The Rejection was part of the resolution on a motion tiled, “Urgent need to halt the plan to raise a federal government secured Bond of N309 billion to finance the outrageous shortfall in the Nigerian Electricity Market”, sponsored by Edward Gyang Pwajok represented by Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency of Plateau State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party,

Smarter Design

Tomorrow's buildings: Smarter by design
By Jane WakefieldTechnology reporter

The smartest buildings of the future will be those designed with people in mind, according to a new breed of architects trying to put the human at the centre of the process.
This can mean design that speaks directly to the function of a building - a hospital designed to help make people better or a school that aims to redefine education.
Or it may mean using technology to allow people to get involved in the design process or feedback on how they feel about living or working in a particular building.
As part of its Tomorrow's Buildings season, the BBC looks at four ideas that aim to do all of the above.
Measuring feelings

The new era of smart buildings is all about data - but, generally, what is being measured is practical stuff such as temperature, light, the number of people in a building at any given time.
But what if you could also measure

YG CLAIMS SECRET SERVICE IS WATCHING HIM

The secret service is keeping tabs on YG. The Compton rapper says that his Nipsey Hussle collaboration “FDT (F**k Donald Trump)” has the authorities reaching out.
“Secret service hollering’ at the label,” YG told TMZ. “They asked to see the lyrics on my album to see if I’m talking about him on my album. If I’m talking about it on my album, they’re gonna try to take it off the shelves.”
That wasn’t exactly YG’s intention with the track, he explained. Instead, he just wanted to move young voters to the polls.
“We’re trying to touch the people,” he said. “We’re trying to motivate the young people to vote. Take your time out to vote on who should be in office because it’s important. If not, it could be all bad for us.”
YG is doing more than fielding calls from the secret service. He’s also prepping his sophomore albumStill Krazy and gearing up for “The Endless Summer Tour” with Logic, G-Eazy, and Yo Gotti.

Advent of a Cyborg Era

Pentagon’s research arm, the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA), is taking big initiatives to bringing us a step closer in making cybernetic organisms a reality as U.S. military invests up to $60 million on the development of implants that could connect the human brain and computers.
The Neural Engineering System Design (NESD) is DARPA’s new program that aims to develop a cubic centimeter-sized implant for humans to transmit brain neurons as electronic signals that computers can understand. They consider the result of the currently used neural interface while aggregating hundreds of thousands of neurons through just 100 channels as “noisy and imprecise.” NESD wants to “develop systems that can communicate clearly and individually with any of up to one million neurons in a given region of

Why will Drake be Photoshopped to his album cover?

THE CN TOWER TWITTER ACCOUNT CONFIRMS THAT DRAKE WAS PHOTOSHOPPED ONTO ALBUM COVER

 APRIL 26, 2016

Drake unveiled the cover art to his forthcomingViews From the 6 LP over the weekend, stirring up a firestorm of memes, something that’s become customary with Drake releases of any kind over the last couple years. The artwork, which depicts a very tiny Drake perched atop the CN Tower, the highest point of the tallest structure and signature landmark of his hometown of Toronto, was shot by Canadian photographer Caitlin Cronenberg, but its validity was still called into question. Was Drake actually sitting on top of the CN Tower when Cronenberg took her mesmerizing stills, or was he Photoshopped onto it after the fact?

That question was answered by the verified Twitter account of the CN Tower itself: no, he was not. Whoever runs that Twitter account even threw in a nifty hashtag for those still in doubt. “#NotReallyThere.”

Performance by Usher

Prince takes over Coachella. Many musicians including Ice Cube paid homage to the late great on the first weekend since the Purple One’s death. Usher also came through with a couple of special covers.
The ATLien took the stage with Major Lazer during Sunday’s set to perform “I Would Die 4 U” and “1999,” two of Prince’s biggest hits—hits that continue charting.
Usher wasn’t alone as LCD Soundsystem also covered “Controversy” during their headlining performance and Jack Ü delivered a Prince-heavy set on Friday. Elsewhere, Sufjan Stevens and Gallant covered “Purple Rain,” and Jhené Aiko also joined Gallant for a duet of “Diamonds and Pearls.”

The tributes kept pouring in. According to the Los Angeles Times, Ellie Goulding took on Prince’s “When Doves Cry,” Ice Cube wore purple shoes and a purple bandana, and Killer Mike delivered these potent words: “Prince, wherever you are, we are burning this to the ground in your name.”

T.I supports 'Bernie Sanders'

T.I. SHARES SUPPORT FOR BERNIE SANDERS

T.I. is feeling the Bern. The King of the South is throwing his support behind Bernie Sanders in this year’s election.

“I think he’s the most honest, the most straight-up dude,” Tip told TMZ of the Democratic candidate. “The most viable option.”

During his chat, the Atlanta rapper also revealed that he is able to vote despite his felony convictions. “This is something most people don’t know,” he said. “As long as you are not serving any sentence, as long as you are not on any probation or anything… If you’ve served your debt to society, you can re-register [to vote].”

Tip’s political ideals have drawn criticism in the past.Last year, he was blasted for saying he wouldn’t support Hillary Clinton’s run for president because she is a woman. At the time, he also criticized Donald Trump, saying that he “can’t cast no vote for him” either.

He later apologized for his comments about Clinton, but doubled down on his anti-Trump thoughts. “He’s making a mockery of democracy,” Tip said. “#OperationANYONEbutTRUMP.”
